Where the facts come from

Population, land area, county seats, and ZIP Code Tabulation Areas on the community pages come from Census files and Arizona statutes retrieved November 2, 2026. Market figures on the insight articles carry the publisher and the date. Trameze Jones does not post a number without that citation.

Which places have a page?

87 pages. Each one is an incorporated place or a census designated place that the 2020 Census place-to-county relationship file assigns to Pima County (04019), Cochise County (04003), or Santa Cruz County (04023).

File: national_place_by_county2020.txt. Names, legal status, land area, water area, and internal points are from the 2024 Census Gazetteer for Arizona places. All 87 geoids in the county file were still in that gazetteer. Marana is also assigned to Pinal County. That is stated on the Marana page. The page is not duplicated.

Nearby places in the 2024 gazetteer that the 2020 file assigns to other counties are not given pages: Campo Bonito, Oracle, Red Rock, Saddlebrooke, San Manuel, Kohatk, and Tat Momoli (Pinal); Kaka (Maricopa); Franklin (Greenlee). Neighborhoods inside a city, such as named Tucson neighborhoods that are not their own Census place, are not separate pages.

Where does the population figure come from?

2020 counts for places are the total population (table P1, cell P0010001) from the 2020 Census Redistricting Data (P.L. 94-171) for Arizona, summary level 160, joined on the logical record number. File: az2020.pl.zip.

July 1, 2024 estimates are shown only for incorporated places. They are POPESTIMATE2024, summary level 162, from the Census Bureau's Vintage 2024 city and town population estimates: sub-est2024_4.csv. That file does not publish census designated places. The estimates base for 2020 in that file differs by a few people from the P.L. 94-171 count for some cities, including Tucson (542,629 in the census file, 542,649 in the estimates base). Pages use the P.L. 94-171 count as the 2020 Census population.

County populations are from the 2020 Census centers of population by county: CenPop2020_Mean_CO04.txt. Pima County 1,043,433; Cochise County 125,447; Santa Cruz County 47,669. The same file lists Maricopa County at 4,420,568 and Pinal County at 425,264, which is why the Pima page says Pima was second among Arizona counties.

Where do land area and map points come from?

Place land and water area, and the internal point latitude and longitude, are the 2024 Gazetteer fields ALAND_SQMI, AWATER_SQMI, INTPTLAT, and INTPTLONG. County land and water area and internal points are from the 2024 Census Gazetteer for Arizona counties. A 2020 population was counted for the 2020 place boundary. The 2024 area can differ if the boundary changed later. Both vintages are labeled on the pages.

Where do the ZIP Code Tabulation Areas come from?

Overlapping ZCTAs come from the 2020 ZCTA-to-place relationship file: tab20_zcta520_place20_natl.txt. A ZCTA is not a U.S. Postal Service ZIP Code. Pages do not claim a USPS ZIP Code list.

Which statute names each county seat?

Office point and straight-line miles

The office address is 7445 N Oracle Rd Ste 201, Tucson, AZ 85704. The map point is the Census Bureau geocoder, benchmark Public_AR_Current, which matched "7445 N ORACLE RD, TUCSON, AZ, 85704" on TIGER line 639450283, address range 7335–7499. Coordinates used: 32.342982, -110.976886. That is an interpolated point on the address range, not a surveyed rooftop.

Straight-line miles use the haversine formula with an Earth radius of 3,958.7613 miles, between the place's 2024 Gazetteer internal point and that office point, rounded to the nearest tenth of a mile. They are not driving distances.
